First thing you should clarify is, what is your research topic? What are you trying to find out? What is your overarching theme? Once you determine your research topic, then move into finding information related to your research topic. These could include the following:
Scale of the sector/industry. Provide a broad scope. Consider economic, social, cultural, or environmental impacts. Include future outlooks.
The salary scale of your chosen career. You can compare salaries by region, by company, by experience, etc. If the information is not available, provide an estimate by comparing careers that utilize similar skill sets.
Skills, knowledge, experience, and characteristics required for the career.
Once you have read the literature, have a think about the issues that are relevant to your research topic. Consider what you would like to include in your literature review. Then structure out what you will write in the introduction, body, and conclusion. Start summarizing and more importantly synthesizing your reviewed literature. Some ways to do this are including major debates, progression in the field of the area, old and new interpretations, etc.
As the purpose of this class is for you to explore potential careers by using research skills, at least 7 reliable references need to be included for your literature review. Academic articles, book chapters, books, and popular, but reputable sources (e.g. Harvard Business Review, The Economist, Time, Washington Post, New York Times, etc.), industry association reports, and government reports can be used. Make sure you cite others work and use appropriate referencing styles (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
