1. Read Edgar Allen Poe’s short story “The Masque of the Red Death”. You absolutely should be thinking about theme and symbolism and all the good stuff while you read it, but I also want you to think about how this situation compares to our current situation with the corona virus.
2. Read the Slate.com article. Fair warning – this website leans a little bit to the left, but I think this comparison is very interesting and offers a deep reading of the story.
3. Write a one page paper about the story and the article. You may compare/contrast, refute the article, provide more analysis or examples to agree with the article, etc. Just put together your thoughts on these two sources.
