The end goal of this course will be to complete a formal APA style research proposal. In this proposal you will plan and design a hypothetical research project aimed at generating new knowledge on a topic of your choice. This course will walk you through the entire process of planning and designing an original research project. You are not required to perform the research, only plan and design an original and hypothetical research endeavor.

At the end of this course you will combine and revise all of the smaller recommended research milestones into your final research proposal, which should be comprised of six clearly labeled sections totaling 5-10 double-spaced pages:

1) APA Cover Page with Abstract – Professional APA presentation of research proposal including a cover page, an abstract (150 word brief summary to peak reader’s interest) of proposal, and keywords. Click link to view a sample APA paper (Links to an external site.) for formatting specifics (author notes not required). More information about writing abstracts (Links to an external site.) can be found here.

2) Introduction – Introduce your research topic and establish its significance.

3) Literature Review – Provide readers with background on your research topic: history, approaches, the current state of knowledge, gaps in knowledge, bridge to the need for your proposed study. This section should include 10 APA in-text citations bringing in 10 separate authors from your reference page on your topic.

4) Methodology – Detail your proposed research question and design carefully considering aspects such as measurement of constructs, sampling, and plans for data generation and analysis. You should also discuss the purpose, plane, and paradigm of your research design.

5) Conclusion – Conclude your proposal by summarizing the main points and discussing what your proposed study will add to the state of knowledge on your topic. Add any thoughts about ethical considerations.

6) APA References Page – List your 10 references alphabetically in proper APA style.

This is your chance to revise and improve each prior research milestone. You will also need to write transitions between each section. The proposal should be formatted professionally in APA style including an APA cover page with abstract, 10 in-text citations bringing in 10 separate sources (will go in the literature review) and an APA references page with 10 references. You can obtain specifics about APA style by doing the following:

-Week to week this course will cover smaller research milestones which provide detailed instructions and resources to help you learn the steps required to complete the final individual research proposal. You will want to follow along and revisit these milestones in order to successfully complete the larger project.

-Carefully study and consult APA Simplified to perfect your APA formatting, in-text citations, and references page.

-Visit the University Writing CenterLinks to an external site. web site and resources provided in earlier modules for handouts on APA style writing, APA in-text citations, and listing sources on an APA style reference page.

-Visit the Purdue Online Writing Lab (Links to an external site.) web site for more APA information and resources.

-View a sample APA paper (Links to an external site.) for formatting specifics (author notes not required).

-Schedule and attend a University Writing CenterLinks to an external site. consultation for one-on-one help.

Your grade will reflect whether accomplishment of the learning objectives for each prior research milestone (section) and a comprehensive understanding of the research process and APA style writing is clear. You should return to each prior research milestone instructions, feedback, and the revision guides to identify areas of improvement.

You may also want to return to your annotated bibliography articles as models of how to write up these sections. In particular, you can follow this Pulse articlePreview the document as a good example. The first half of each article will likely model how to put together an abstract, introduction, literature review, and methodology. The second half will likely move into results and discussion. You are not required to perform your research study. You are only responsible for planning, designing, and proposing it. Therefore, I am not asking for any results. I would, however, like to hear how you intend to analyze the hypothetical data your proposed study would collect.
