PLEASE RESPOND TO MATILDA’S POST BELOW
MATILDA’S POST: The class has been beneficial, and it has made me appreciate the significance of nursing informatics in healthcare. Earlier, I recognize nursing informatics by visiting the electronic health record systems, but I did not acknowledge how far it encompasses as a profession. The class has availed different techniques that have assisted me in meeting the course outcomes. The assignments we did has played a significant part in enhancing my knowledge of nursing informatics, and even the research provided the opportunity to apply in real life. The application of nursing informatics is very beneficial to both nurses and patients (SIPES, 2018). For instance, informatics helps simplify communication and enhance efficiency.
Post-TANIC TIGER assessment has made me recognize some realities, and I did not appreciate it before joining the course. Before this class, the review made me realize the need to improve my nursing informatics skills. By completing the assessment after the course, I realized that I had made tremendous improvements in my knowledge and necessary nursing skills. I have established a firmer foundation of nursing informatics and its application in nursing practice. I have had positive experiences with the virtual learning environment and second life, and through them, I have been able to expand my knowledge and competency.
Generally, informatics is transforming the face of healthcare. The advancement of technology has made healthcare facilities and practitioners to gather, analyze, and leverage data more efficiently (Collins, Yen, Phillips & Kennedy, 2017). It has influenced the care delivery technique, the management of internal and external resources, and the operations within the health organizations. Nursing informatics is essential in nursing practice and is very crucial in situations the require access to information. Besides, it helps in selecting and testing novel medical equipment, lessening incidences of medication errors, and reducing healthcare costs (Collins, Yen, Phillips & Kennedy, 2017). Also, informatics improves the end-to-end treatment and continuity of care.
