In the summer of 2018, I created a group chat with a few friends to talk about LGBTQ+ issues and the stigma surrounding their communities. What started as a group chat soon blossomed into an organization consisting of high schoolers from different areas with similar backgrounds and a desire to speak up for the silenced. Last year, we expressed interest in working with APLA, renowned for serving underserved communities fighting various illnesses. Our biggest event came to life this year. We marched in the LA streets – following quarantine guidelines – to spread awareness and raise funds about the stigmatization against these individuals. I am confident that this is a step closer to achieving equality and reducing the underprivileged social stigma. During our protest, we encountered countless supporters and opposers. One man approached us, voicing his disapproval strongly to our march. I was no longer that ten-year-old boy with no voice, so I asked the man to express his opinion and reason for opposition. Although our views remained unchanged, I walked away, smiling, knowing that my mother would be proud that I stood up for myself and those I represent.
