In focused interviewing, candidates for a position are asked questions about specific on the job behaviors. This assignment will expose students to the behaviors, called leadership dimensions, required for a multi-location LP Management position.
Almost always, a person seeking a job is required to undergo an interview. Often, even for important positions where poor hiring decisions can have dire consequences, the interview is worthless in identifying the best candidate for the position. In order to reduce the possibility of this happening, companys have developed focused (structured) interviews.
In considering candidates for multi-store LP management one company identified nine important behaviorial areas, which are called leadership dimensions. The company believes that the combination of technical job knowledge and good leadership skills are essential for success as a multi-store manager. Candidates that are interviewed have demonstrated the technical skills in their performance in their current job. The interview, conducted by at least two interviewers, is focused on measuring the leadership ability of the candidate.The leadership dimensions are listed below.
The assignment:
1. For each of the dimensions listed below, write a short, concise definition.
2. For each dimension, write at least two or three questions you would ask the candidate. The questions must focus on specific job performance incidents/events that would provide insight regarding the candidate’s strengths or weaknesses with the dimension.
For example, questions that probe the dimensions often begin with “Tell us about a time when….”, “Think about the last time you..” to get at specific incidents. The questions could be about a time the candidate did well or a time when the candidate struggled or had difficulty.
Papers shoud be 1-2 pages in length and are due on the date listed on the schedule of assignments.
