This YouTube clip is a panel discussion featuring Imam Omar Suleiman, Rabbi David Stern, and Saint Michael Rector Chris Giratina. The conversation was moderated by Rev. Amy Heller, chaplain of the Episcopal School of Dallas.
This video is an excellent example of how dialogue helps us to understand one another traditions while recognizing that both similarities and differences do exist. As we begin our study of Monotheistic religions it seems very appropriate to witness a model of effective Interaith dialogue. I hope you enjoy this clip. The first half is a series of moderated questions and the second half is audience questionlain of the Episcopal School of Dallas.
For this discussion post, students will watch the video and respond to the following questions.
1. What did you find most interesting about the conversation itself? Were there specific questions that interested you?
2. What were two points of connection that you found interested between these three religions? What were notable differences?
3. Identify at least one thing that you learned about Christianity, Judaism and Islam, that you didn’t know before. Were their any beliefs that you had held about any of these religions that were addressed through this dialogue?
4. What do you think were the underlying assumptions that allowed the conversation to be an effective dialogue?
