You will need to select a chronic disease covered in Module 2 and 3 to investigate further (DIABETES). You will then need to demonstrate an understanding of this disease as well as presenting evidence for increasing physical activity, and reducing sedentary behaviours, in the prevention and treatment of this disease.
SLO1) Demonstrate the ability to assess determinants of physical activity, at an individual and population level, showing knowledge of the relationship between physical activity, sedentary lifestyles, and health.
SLO2) Identify and apply epidemiological evidence, which supports physical activity and exercise interventions, as an effective management strategy for health maintenance and the prevention of chronic disease.
SLO3) Understand existing guidelines for physical activity, exercise, and leisure programs for apparently healthy individuals, throughout the lifespan.
Context:
Current evidence supports physical activity and exercise as important behaviours for both prevention and the treatment of chronic disease. Therefore, being physically active and limiting sedentary behaviour is essential, for maintaining health and wellbeing.
This assessment allows you to formulate and develop a logical and evidence-based argument as well as fostering your academic writing skills.
Instructions:
You will need to select a chronic disease (DIABETES) covered in Module 2 and 3 and are then expected to independently research this disease and provide an overview of it. You will then explore the effect of physical activity and sedentary behaviour, on the prevention and treatment of this disease.
You will then write a 1500-word essay, following the format below, covering the following topics:
1. Briefly describe in terms of pathophysiology, aetiology, epidemiology, and progression to the chronicity of the chronic disease you have been given to investigate. (THE CHRONIC DISEASE, DIABETES)
2. When during the lifespan would a person most likely suffer from this chronic disease?
3. Present 2-3 pieces of current evidence for the decreased physical activity being a causative factor in this chronic disease?
4. Address the link between the prevention and/or treatment of this chronic disease and increase in physical activity / decrease in sedentary behaviour?

Referencing
Referencing is utilised to acknowledge the work of other people that you use, to support your ideas, within your paper. A good guide is 1 reference per 100 words. For this assessment the guide would be at least 10 references.
In order to meet academic standards, material for all assignments must be referenced correctly and consistently, in order to identify the source of the evidence you use. It is expected that students comply with the APA 6th edition referencing style. Here is the Academic Skills guide to APA referencing. The Laureate Australia Academic Writing Guide will be very useful to outline the different types of in-text referencing and reference list for each source of evidence.
