An abstract in philosophical terms is a one paragraph summary of your paper. This paragraph should not go over 10 sentences. In an abstract you should clearly state your topic, what you intend to argue, and how you will argue it. For this paper that means you state the moral issue you picked, you will describe in one or two sentences why it is a moral problem, and why is it a moral problem for the society. you will tell me what idea or theory from the class you will use to support your argument, and then how you would solve the moral problem you cited.

Your outline should list your basic argumentative thesis statement and your support premise in a three sentence paragraph at the top. Your argumentative thesis is your direct identification of a problem and why it is a problem.

For example: Inequities in education are a moral problem for our society. These types of inequities violate principles of justice in terms of equal access to the benefits of society. They also tend to reinforce systemic poverty and classism.

A basic abstract and outline would look something like this:

Paragraph 1: This paragraph would be your abstract. Don’t indent, and make sure you follow the basic guideline I described above in terms of content for this paragraph.

Paragraph 2: Place your basic argumentative thesis here.

NOTE THAT THE OUTLINE IS NOT A PARAGRAPH BY PARAGRAPH GUIDE FOR THE FINAL PAPER. On your final paper each section except I and VII should be multiple paragraphs. You may be as brief as the outline above, or you may go into detail under each point.
