Purpose:
The purpose of the current paper is to reflect on the section of the syllabus labeled as Course Objectives. Throughout the semester we have discussed, and will continue to discuss, different topics related to abnormal psychology including psychological disorders. In the current paper, students will choose one topic, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the topic of their choice.
Topics:
Choose a psychological disorder from the textbook as your topic. Please consult with the instructor about your topic.
Instructions:
As stated above please choose ONE psychological disorder as described in the textbook. Please make sure to clarify any questions about the paper with your instructor before it is due. Please make sure to read the instructions carefully so that you gain full credit for each requirement. Make sure to TYPE your assignment and submit it via E-mail (Word preferred, Google Docs acceptable, please no PDF as I need to make edits). Late papers will not be accepted. Early paper submissions are encouraged.

Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced, one inch margins

Please follow the following guidelines for your paper:
-Name the disorder of your choice.
-Define the diagnostic criteria of the disorder. You can use the DSM-5 available in the library on the second floor or the textbook for assistance. You can also use an alternate source, but please make sure that it is peer-reviewed and empirically based. This pertains to the symptoms as they typically appear in someone with this disorder.
-You may describe the symptoms of the disorder in simple terms, as well as provide an example.
-Please make sure that you explain the disorder in terms of the 4 Ds (deviation, distress, dysfunction, danger).
-Explain the disorder in terms of the biopsychosocial model. Consider the biological, psychological, and social factors that may pertain to this disorder developing, and how such factors may continue to interact when the disorder has already developed.
-Please include which populations may be more prone to this disorder i.e., age, sex, etc.
-Please consider and include cultural factors as they may pertain to this disorder. This may include stigmas, biases, or the general societal view as it pertains to this disorder. Ex. Patients who have schizophrenia may appear to be possessed according to some cultures.
-Please cover the treatment options available for this disorder. This includes medications, if available, and the appropriate type of therapy.
