Annotated Bibliography Assignment (Fall 2014)

For this annotated bibliography, you will search for ten journal articles that use specific theories as their theoretical basis. You may choose any journal and article as long as it a.) Uses the theory specified, and b.) It has some connection to mass communication of some sort. In other words, don’t include an article on feminist theory that discusses the field of biology.
You must find a total of ten journal articles that you must then annotate. You must include one article for each of the following theories:
1. Cultivation Theory
2. Spiral of Silence
3. Feminist Theory
4. Diffusion/Adoption of Innovation
5. Third Person Effect
6. Uses and Gratifications
7. Agenda Setting
8. Framing
9. Marxist Theory
10. Semiotics
For each of the ten articles you find, you must prepare an annotated bibliographic citation. This must include the following:
A. Theory
B. Full APA citation
C. Identify Hypotheses/Research Questions (whether outwardly stated, or implied)
D. Identify Method used
E. Brief summary of findings
F. Critique of journal article’s quality and discussion of appropriateness of the use of the theory
Each of the ten citations must be single-spaced and typed. No entry should be more than one page in length. Your entries must be thorough but parsimonious. Please organize your annotated bibliography in the order the assigned theories are listed above. Your first annotation should be the article for cultivation theory, the last your semiotics article. Include links to each of the ten articles used. This assignment will be turned in electronically via Blackboard. You also include copies of all ten of the journal articles you used for your critique.
