Discussion 1: Dr Pam stated, Hi, everyone~
A commonly used definition of an abstract posited by Johnson (1995) is a concise representation of a documents content to enable the reader to determine its relevance to a specific information need (p. 28) . What are the dangers of only reading the abstract? What are the dangers of citing from the abstract?

As you progress in your program, you will need to read many journal articles. It just is not a good use of your time to read lengthy articles in their entirety before you evaluate whether they are of use to your topic or not. For this reason, it is imperative that you read the abstract and learn to effectively and efficiently evaluate its relevance before devoting more time to reading it. As you read the abstract, answer these questions:
1. “Does this article suit my needs?
2. Do i understand the abstract?
3. Is this article too advanced or not advanced enough” (The University of Chicago, 2020, para. 1)?
The answer to these questions tells you whether to continue reading the article for more detailed information or eliminate it and continue your article search. The abstract of the Petervari et al. (2016) article was more of a teaser for the article contents; however, it did provide keys topics addressed in the article. What was the essential information and logic of the authors’ argument that you gleaned from the abstract?

Discussion 3: Hi, Nancy and everyone ~
As you read journal article introductions, look to see if the article presents these key elements:
clearly states and issue or a problem
states why this is an important issue or what the consequences are that are troubling
briefly presents a few examples of previous key research conducted on the topic (more details will emerge later in the article)
introduces the element to be explored in this research related to the issue or problem and why it is important to consider this element.
