Focus: the focus of the paper is on improving throughput in the emergency department to decrease the left without being seen (LWBS) population.
I am including several articles on the topic. we are experiencing a severe backlog in the emergency department right now due to a high volume of boarders. this is due to a full hospital and covid. the waiting area is full of people which is not safe. It is difficult to social distance when there are 40 people in the lobby and it has a negative impact on our patient satisfaction scores. Our department has been trying to find different areas to put patients so that we may care for them while they are waiting for a room. if we can get a provider to see the patient and place orders we can begin the patients treatment. our department is utilizing hallway chairs and has just secured a portion of same day surgeries waiting area for us to put patients. we have also just placed an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) out in our triage area to see the patients and place orders.
this paper should include stakeholders, interprofessional collaboration and a Quality Improvement method such as Lean or plan-do-study-act (PDSA).
