Essay/Assessment of Case of Insurgency or Counter-Insurgency
Each student must submit an essay assessing causes, characteristics and consequences of a case of insurgency and the strengths and weaknesses of the counter-insurgency campaign conducted in response. The review must include the following elements:
Examination of one or more approach[es] to the study of insurgency
Examination of one or more approach[es] to counter-insurgency
Application of one or more approach[es] to counter-insurgency to ones case study of choice.
Grading criteria are as follows:
Content and Organization:
Extent to which the essay addresses each of the three required elements described above: 50 points
Overall analytical strength of the essay: 50 points
Extent to which your arguments are supported by sufficient evidence: 25 points
Organizational clarity of the essay: 25 points
Presentation:
Quality of the prose: 25 points
Style (spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, word choice, consistency in the use of terms, formatting of the references): 25 points
Length: 6-8 pages
Format: Double-spaced APA
