THIS ESSAY NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REWRITTEN WITH “NEW” WORDING. I previously submitted to “TurnItIn” in English 100 and want to resubmit without a similarity report for English 102. Please see Rubric attached for paper expectations and the original paper is attached as well! Essay 4 Instructions Assignment NOTE THAT ABSOLUTELY NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT. As discussed and planned since Module 7, you will write a proposal essay. This essay will focus on a problem or issue in our society and will put forward a proposal to fix it or address the issue in some way. This will be an argumentative paper that puts forward what you think needs to be done in order to solve or address a social problem. You may choose any topic or issue that you wish, with the exception of three items: legalization of marijuana, same sex marriage, abortion. You can choose any other issue; be aware that papers that cover these topics will receive a failing grade. You will use at least 4 sources to support and prove your view and may use up to 6 if needed. These 4 sources can come from Short Essay 4, but you may find new ones if needed. This assignment is very hands off in terms of outline. Aside from the introduction and conclusion, the rest is up to you. An introduction that hooks a reader and gives some context or explanation of the issue or problem at hand. This will contain a well developed thesis that explains what solution or action is being proposed and gives details on how this will be argued or explained and why this is a good solution. Your first body paragraph will outline the issue at hand. This will identify the issue and discuss what the problem is and why this is a problem. Use good information and sources to show what the issue is. You will then write any number of body paragraphs that support or argue for your solution or action. Exactly what you do in these paragraphs is up to you, but each should have a strong topic sentence, use your sources for back up and evidence, and transition well to the next idea. These paragraphs can use any of the other ideas we’ve covered in class: cause/effect, evaluation, counterargument, etc. This will be up to you to see what methods you want to use (logos, pathos, ethos, rhetoric, etc.). You are only prevented from using fallacies and satire. A conclusion that will wrap up the paper’s ideas and give the audience something to do or act on. Details This assignment will be the last of the formal essays for the class. These will be longer form essays that will focus on the ideas, subject matter, or practices of the modules and be used to allow you to respond to and engage with the material. Pay close attention to the information provided to you and follow the outline and criteria closely. This will be at least 1400 words, will follow MLA formatting, and will use at least 4 outside sources to support your ideas and prove your argument. You will quote from these sources and will properly cite them in in-text and in a work cited page (separate from the word count). Do not use the 1st (I, me, we, us) or 2nd (you, your) person in this essay. Stick to third person (he, she, it, they). The essay will be submitted to the Essay 4 Submission page by Friday, 12/12.
