Explain why the issue youre examining is important and provide the context for raising the issue.

For your Causal Essay, you will choose a current problem or issue and research what is contributing to (or causing) it. Examples in Chapter 11 of your textbook include dying bees, obesity, rising housing costs, and the opioid addiction crisis.
Your text points to three major categories of causal arguments: 1. Arguments that state a cause and then examine its effects. 2. Arguments that state an effect and then trace the effect back to its causes. 3. Arguments that move through a series of links: A causes B, which leads to C and perhaps D. (Lunsford 257)
Explain why the issue youre examining is important and provide the context for raising the issue. Keep your target audience in mind. Who do hope to reach and why? Address anticipated counterarguments.
