For this final paper, Id like for you to revisit your Politics of Location essay submitted earlier this semester. Reread it again carefully with an eye towards how what youve learned in class this semester might help you understand or explore it in a different way. Then write me an essay that does just this show me how what youve learned this semester can help you make sense of your own politics of location, or how its complicated the way you understand it, or show me how your politics of location affects the way youve interacted with this course and its content.
It is not necessary for you to discuss everything or every aspect of your politics of location in this essay. Rather, Id like for you to hone in on your very best ideas and use this essay as a place to develop them and put them in conversation with the authors weve read this semester (and, if appropriate, with other students in the class youve learned from).
these are my professor notes for my previous essay all you need to do is follow her notes for my essay I will also attach my essay that you will work on
my professor comment (You’ve done some good thinking here exploring how you’ve navigated your position between two cultures. I enjoyed reading this.
I do think a bit more background might be in order to make your ideas clearer– When did you move to the US? Did your family move with you?
There are also some places I think you might be more specific about differences you’ve observed between the two cultures.
At times I think you do describe American culture a little too generously– certainly there are inequalities here and women and minorities face forms of discrimination here as well. It might be worth thinking through what’s shaped your ideas about American culture. How is it perceived in the Middle East broadly speaking? How has your experience in the US compared with what you’d expected?
In your final essay, it might be worth thinking through how your experience as a Muslim immigrant to the US may shape your experiences and point of view in ways differently from women who grew up in the US. Consider reviewing the materials on intersectionality we looked at earlier in the semester (the Crenshaw video and your textbook as well as Rich’s article). I look forward to seeing what you come up with!)
