“Write a six page paper (1,500 word minimum assumes 250 words per page) analyzing a current domestic policy issue. I would like you to focus on a domestic issue rather than international/global issues though many domestic issues have global implication ( ex, immigration). But for this assignment keep the focus on domestic policy.
What is President Obama saying about the problem? Is Congress considering any proposals? Reading the newspaper, watching television, and talking family/friends will give you some insight as to what is going on at the national level. (Read Chapter 13 of your text to get you started and orient your thinking.)

1. why is this issue a problem that government needs to deal with;
2. what solutions have been proposed by the president, Congress, interest groups etc.
3. theories from readings and discussion; for example, you will read about domestic policy issues and why they are salient;
4. anything else you think is relevant.”
Our teacher later noted to include:
1) Find at least four interest groups involved in the issue you are following for your research paper. Discuss what the positions are of the groups and what impact they have had on what the government has done on the issue.
-what groups are supporting the presidents position
-tell us something about the groups and evidence of their positions, etc.
2) Look at the White House website on issues: http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues
-Prepare and post a statement articulating President Obamas position on the issue that you have chosen and explain his reasoning.
-What initiatives has he taken on the issue? Has he proposed legislation or executive action? If so, describe his actions.
