Final Project Overview

In this course, in lieu of a final exam, you will complete a final project. This project will be completed in 4 parts, with each part due at the end of units 1-4 of the course, and the final submission unit 5. The project will enable you to demonstrate mastery of each weeks objectives with your ability to connect learning to your professional and personal life.

For this project, you will use credible and scholarly research to demonstrate critical thinking about aspects of psychology that apply to real-life situations.

Unit 1: Psychological Perspectives
End of unit 1
Describe how a perspective in psychology explains the onset, development or expression of symptoms of the disorder you have selected. Example: How would a Behaviorist explain why the symptoms of depression develop?

Perspectives in psychology include: psychoanalytic, behaviorist, humanistic, evolutionary, biological or functionalist.
The weekly preps are worth 5% of the final course project grade.
Unit 2: Memory Process
End of unit 2-
Identify how the disorder would affect the encoding, storage or retrieval stage. And/or explain how the disorder influences perception. The weekly preps are worth 5% of the final course project grade.
Unit 3: Cognitive Development
End of unit 3-
Explain how symptoms of a disorder may be learned through one type of behavioral learning theory. The weekly preps are worth 5% of the final course project grade.
Unit 4: Social and Personal Development
End of unit 4-
Explain the connection between a concept in social psychology (conformity, obedience, compliance, stereotypes, prejudice) and the selected disorder. The weekly preps are worth 5% of the final course project grade.
Unit 5: Final Submission
End of unit 5- Sunday,
Create an 9-12 slide power point presentation. The final project is worth 20% of your course grade.

Part 3: In unit 3, you will review three major learning theories.

Part 4: In unit 4, you will review concepts in social psychology.

In unit 5, you will put it all together and explore treatment options.
