In April 2004 President George W. Bush called for the widespread adoption of electronic health records by 2014. The position of National Health Information Coordinator was established at this time. The first Coordinator was David Brailer (2004-2007) and the current coordinator is Dr. Farzad Mostashari. This event was significant in that it provided National guidance to promote information exchange and EMR adoption.
