RESEARCH TOPIC: In Unit 9, we considered the EARLY Christian approach towards slavery. How accepting was Christianity of this institution, and how did Christians reconcile themselves to its existence? -This class is a 3rd year religious studies class called “Early Christians”. The focus of the class is on the instrumental members of early christian church, and on the historical context of the times in which they lived.-Unit 9 introduced the history of slavery in the Roman Empire, and the tolerance/intolerance of early christianity towards this topic. Much of the unit discusses the views of christians during the life of Jesus Christ, and shortly after his death.-Most of this course covers the earliest times of the christian church, from the times of christ, until the recognition of the christian church as legitimate in the 3rd and 4th centuries A.D. This is the period of time during which some of the most influential members of the early christian movement existed.-The final assignment is a 2500-3000 page research essay written on a chosen topic that was discussed. There were 25 different topics to choose from for this essay, and I chose the topic listed above.-I had to submit a research proposal to my professor outlining my topic of choice, along with 10 possible sources to be used in the paper. I have attached the sources that I found in my school’s online library, along with a PDF copy of each source document. The assignment instructions call for the use of at least 5 of these sources. The sources must be from my school library, so that is why I have attached them for you.-All citations must be in Chicago style for humanties format.-I have also attached a copy of the assignment instructions and the marking rubric.-My professor emphasized the importance of my paper being focused on EARLY CHRISTIANS and their approach/attitudes towards slavery, rather than that of christianity in general.
