One thing we have explored in the course of the last few weeks is that the different disciplines in the humanities are all different approaches to the same themes and concepts. This week, you’ll be approaching it from the perspective of a poet and painter.

This assignment has two distinct parts.

Part I
Find a work of art from Latin America and a poem that explores the same theme as the painting and discuss how the author and poet have used composition, technique, and style to convey the same meaning.

Writing Requirements (APA format)

Length: 2-3 pages (not including title page or references page)

References Minimum of 2 scholarly sources: Latin American work of art and the poem you will be analyzing (in addition to your own poem and painting)
Part II
Now you get to play artist. You will paint (oils, acrylics, or watercolors) your own piece and write a poem on the same theme. Do not replicate the pieces you analyzed. Your poem and painting do not have to be professional and will not be critiqued on whether you have skill at writing or painting, but rather serve to give you a sense of how creating works as a creator. Discuss the following:

What the process for was like in creating the painting and poem
What techniques you tried and why
What you learned about yourself in expressing your sense of the theme in each approach

Length: 1-2 page written explanation addressing questions in bulleted list (not including title page or references page)
