Write a research paper on “How to Apologize & Why It Matters .”

In the podcast episode “How to Apologize & Why It Matters, Part 1,” Brene Brown invites Harriet Lerner to introduce her framework for delivering a genuine apology, and Lerner stresses that there are “nine essential ingredients to a heartfelt apology.” For the purposes of our work with Lerner’s framework, we will only be examining the first three of these ingredients/characteristics.

Using your own personal experience and observations OR using digital technology to conduct a brief Internet-based search, present an instance in which a person or an organization has offered an apology. This instance can be one in which you yourself delivered an apology, received an apology from another person, or observed an apology being delivered; similarly, you may locate through research audio, video, or written transcript of an apology.

Take a few sentences to provide essential background information about this “instance of apology” including the names of key parties involved (the apologizer and the apology receiver) and the circumstances that prompted the apology.

From there, APPLY THE FIRST THREE CHARACTERISTICS FROM LERNER’S FRAMEWORK to this apology and determine whether the apologizer has succeeded in offering a heartfelt apology. Please directly quote or paraphrase from the apology itself as you demonstrate whether the apologizer is successful in delivering the apology.

One apology that springs to mind is the one that celebrated American cyclist Lance Armstrong offered in an video-recorded interview with Oprah Winfrey in January 2013. With a quick internet search, I was able to locate video of Winfrey’s interview with Armstrong. However, I want to stress that you should not feel compelled to work with this example; it simply is for illustrative purposes only.
