Discuss about social cognitive theory is the behavior change theory, and the social-ecological model is the behavior change model I can use to support my cigarette smoking cessation program. The social cognitive theory explains the factors motivating cigarette smoking, and the constructs are cognitive factors, the physical and social environmental influences, and behavioral factors. The personal factors, environmental, and behavioral factors are in dynamic interaction. Self-efficacy, observational learning, self-control, knowledge, and reinforcement are the social cognitive theory constructs (Glanz, 2016). Self-efficacy is an essential construct of social cognitive theory associated with cigarette smoking cessation outcomes (Shadel, Martino, Setodji, Cervone, & Witkiewitz, 2017). Knowing the factors that motivate cigarette smoking will help design interventions that promote behavior change quitting smoking.

The social-ecological model is a behavior change model used to understand the multiple factors influencing cigarette smoking and the appropriate interventions that result in smoking behavior change to quit smoking. The multiple levels that influence behavior are individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and public policy. These multiple levels of influence interact across levels. The individual factors include knowledge, belief, attitude, and skills, interpersonal include family, social support, and social network, organizational include environment, community include culture, values, and norms (Glanz, 2016). Behaviors like cigarette smoking behaviors both shape and are being shaped by the social environment. The social-ecological model and social cognitive model agree creating an environment conducive to change is essential to make it easier to adopt healthy behaviors (Glanz, 2016). Unlike the social-ecological model that includes multiple levels that influence behavior includes public policy, the social cognitive theory constructs are cognitive factors, the physical and social environmental influences, and behavioral factors. The social-ecological model is the most appropriate behavior model for the cigarette smoking problem in Macomb County, Michigan.
