1) In the last nine months or so we all have heard politicians claiming that they will follow the science, base decisions on scientific evidence and other variations of the same widely accepted principle: the centrality of scientific knowledge to policy making and politics. But various difficulties seem to interfere with such an (apparently) straightforward aim. Explain the main reasons scholars in the area put forward for the idea of following the science being, in practice, hard to achieve. You can use examples to illustrate your answer and not necessarily related to Covid-19.

2)Science advisers have risen to prominence in the last decade and this can be understood as part of the movement towards evidence-led policy making. How has the role of these actors in policy making been described in the literature? Using one or two examples explain which characterisations you find most compelling.

Drawing together major arguments by way of conclusion in relation to the assignment;
Formal presentation of the work: correct referencing and quoting; spelling, grammar and style; layout and visual presentation.
