Dear Class,
I hope you are all well. Attached below is your first quiz assessment. You are to continue your scheduled studies for our class as noted in Monday’s announcement. I will have our following week’s objectives announced on Friday. The discussions so far look very good. Students have produced detailed threads that demonstrate careful research and appreciation for the topics we are studying. Your quiz is located in the “Course Activities” tab. Select from the drop down menu “Assignments” and then select “Quiz One” from the drop box folders . You will need to type and upload your quiz as a word or PDF file.
Module I Quiz:
Using your copy of the Franklin source, address the author’s argument against British taxation and evaluate his logical reasoning for opposing Parliament’s enactment of the Stamp Act. The response will need to follow the following parameters:
1) You will need to establish the context of the document (what, when, and where) to demonstrate your understanding of the time period. This will briefly introduce the source and the author’s purpose for writing it.
2) Explain the author’s argument by addressing your interpretation of key statements that highlight his protest of the tax, but also tie this argument to your understanding of the Colonial reaction to the Stamp Act.
3) Explain how and why this former loyal diplomat turned to become an ardent supporter of protest.
4) Use only the source, although the supporting course content and textbook may be referenced to help you develop your response.
5) No outside source(s) may be used. This will result in an automatic failure.
6) Length: Two full pages, double spaced. Anything beyond this will not count toward the evaluation of your work.
7) No in text citation or work cited page is needed but you do need quotation marks when quoting the Franklin source directly.
Note: You are being evaluated on your ability to interpret historical documents. This requires research and careful editing. Take your time with this assignment.
As always, please contact me with your questions.
