Choose one of the special education settings for any K-12 special education program under IDEA. For example, you may choose the resource or pull out program for students enrolled in the specific learning disability program in grade four. Or, for example, the mobility training program provided by the vision teacher to students enrolled in the blind program in the 12 th grade during community training classes. Be specific about the exceptionality, grade, and the setting. Note that the setting is the least restrictive environment.
1. Describe the setting of your choice. Be specific. Provide citations. Some examples of the settings that you may describe are: resource or pull out program, self-contained program, general education inclusion with ESE support. Provide the necessary certification for the teacher providing the services; for example, if the teacher is providing reading to students in the specific learning disability program, the teacher must be certified in Learning Disability or Various Exceptionalities and requires a reading endorsement. These are state mandates.
2. Describe in detail the exceptionality. Hint: you may use the exceptionality that you will be presenting.
3. The students in your chosen setting may speak other languages. Provide at least two examples of how the teacher can facilitate second language acquisition. You may choose first language use and cooperative learning strategies.
