The Cold War encouraged large nations to ally themselves directly by accepting and receiving financial and military support, with either NATO or the Warsaw Pact. This led to much conflict and eventually the War on Terror affected the United States and other countries greatly. It made travel restrictions tighter, and affected the economy of many countries. And intensified the focus on the middle east that was started after the Cold War.
