Essay #4 stuff:
Students generally make good grades on this final essay. Why? I think its because of the low word count, no sources, and you get to choose something you like to write about.
So what could possibly go wrong? Essays that dont fulfill all 6 requirements, essays that dont include the lyrics or poem at the end, etc. Just be sure to follow the guidelines.
*Ive posted an example of how to cite your lyrics in-text and on the works cited page. You DONT need to keep putting the name of the artist or poet or band in every citation. He, she, or they should be the only source in the essay, so its not necessary. After youve established who it is that wrote the lyrics or poem, line numbers should suffice.
*For the sake of simplicity, I just want you to treat the band, singer, rapper, whatever, as if he, she, or they are the ones who wrote/created the lyrics. I know some artists dont write they own music. They sing songs that others write. Since youre not allowed to use secondary sources, were not going to get into all of that. Were going to assume that whoever is performing the song is the person who wrote the song.
*Also, DONT define the poetic devices while you point one out in the song. I know what each poetic device is. This is low word count essay, and unnecessarily defining what metaphor is (for example) is a waste of words. If you see a metaphor (for example), just say the artist/poet, etc. uses metaphor when he/she says, The sun is ball. You can either expand upon what the phrase means, or you can discuss why you think the author used phrase. Just dont say something like, The author uses metaphor in his song. A metaphor is a
