Respond to classmate post on topic: Examine the Keep Patients Waiting? Not In My Office case and discuss the biblical implications of proper scheduling and dealing with latecomers and “no-show” patients.
Classmate Post: Timeliness is a key component to being efficient. Having significant waste is not being a good steward of resources and also impacts profit margins which can be reflective on shareholders. Stewardship is a principle of the Biblical world view. Christian Stewardship was a command given by God before the fall to guide humanitys purpose in work. God commanded that humans work with creation to help build flourishing societies, and do so as a means to honor God who is the sustainer and owner of all things (Sipe 2020). Because of the nature of their work, doctors offices require systems that promote efficiency. Theyre also meant to provide a service that is pleasing to their customer and wait time can be a factor of customer satisfaction. For many customers, waiting for services is a negative experience (Taylor 1994). There is a balance between work load and timing that needs to occur. Appropriately allocating sufficient time for services as well as putting in place policies and procedures that promote timeliness is important. The objective of appointment scheduling is trading off the interests of physicians and patients: the patients prefer to have a short waiting time, the physician likes to have as little idle time as possible (Kaadorp 2007). The way the office is managed as well as the procedures that promote efficiency has a impact on stewardship.
