Should we lower the minimum legal drinking age?

My stance is that we should NOT lower the minimum legal drinking age

For your next essay, you are going to work with two sources of information, and both must be persuasive. This means that you can use a TED lecture that attempts to persuade the reader, or you can use Two editorials from newspapers. ONLY SELECT 2 SOURCES.

For this assignment, students must find two sources that differ with respect to their stance on a debatable topic. In class we viewed two lectures that took two different approaches to solving the problem of plastic pollution in the ocean. Notice that both sources were in agreement that the problem exists, but both sources had differing perspectives on how to solve the problem.

Well regarded news papers include the following: The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

This assignment is intended to help you learn to work with two sources of information and compare and contrast the divergent perspectives. In addition, this assignment is intended to help you to master citation and documentation. You will use these skills again in the Researched Based Essay.

Overview
Summary:

This “Pro/Con” essay will be on a topic of your choice. You will select a controversial topic of importance to you, and write about it from the perspectives of two other authors/ speakers who may or may not share your views. You may use the same topic and the same articles that you created your Quote, Paraphrase, and Summary for, or you may wish to use different articles. If you are using an entirely different topic and/or entirely different sources, please drop a line to your instructor. This essay will allow you to compare and contrast the views of others, while keeping in mind that it is always a learning experience to look at issues in different and divergent ways. This essay will also allow you to practice citation style, as you quote, paraphrase and summarize from two different sources of information. You may also use images in this paper if you feel that this will be helpful, and if you obtain those images from an outside source, say, the internet, you must cite those as well. Remember that when using outside sources, you must cite these ethically.

***All quotes, paraphrase and summary must be cited in the text of your paper as well as on a Works Cited page.

Your goal here is to explore viewpoints on a topic, and compare and contrast the views of authors/ speakers, and you may wish to include your own perspective on the issue as well.

**** One word of caution, even if you feel strongly about this topic, please do not try to take a persuasive stance or convince the reader to share your viewpoint. That will be the goal of your next assignment, the persuasive research-based essay. You will have the length at that time to practice techniques of persuasion as well as a chance to obtain more sources of information.
