How did the first English colonists understand freedom when they came to North America? What limitations to freedom existed in the colonies? How did the English concept of freedom change during the American Revolution? And how did this new view of freedom impact the new state and national governments that followed the Revolution?
2. The English colonies were established and developed over the 17th and 18th centuries. Were they, for the most part, alike? or did the colonies have unique characteristics that set them apart from each other? Be sure to consider the colonies origins, economy, status of women, how they developed, and how they regarded the native peoples that surrounded them.
