Discuss about growth and nutrition is a cornerstone of childrens life, yet its under gastroenterology.

When I hear the word (doctor , physician) what crosses my mind several things; Many years of studying, Long hours of working , On-calls, presentations, research and conferences

But above all that, and what’s more important is trust, humanity and professionalism that overweighs the hard journey

I remember when I was child, I had several visits to my physician, I didn’t know much about my disease, but I remember how happy I was when I had an appointment, I used to dress up and be ready before time just to meet my doctor who was so kind, gentle and most precious for a child my age. He used to give me a toy, lollipop or a sticker that made me look forward to the next visit to feel spoiled.

The visit to my physician doesn’t end by saying goodbye and leaving the room, it actually just starts.
My father – who used to be a pediatric fellow of neonatology at the same hospital – would take me by the nursery room to see the babies from behind the window for several minutes. At that point, I haven’t thought that this small action would effect my decision in choosing medicine as a career and pediatrics in particular.

I believe that dramatic changes are achieved by taking baby steps not huge jumps.
we learn great things and gain skills as we move on, that makes us reach the top.

After gaining my bachelor degree, I joined the University as a demonstrator (teaching assistant) in the department on December 2011.I had training for some time along with North American trained consultants who are also certified to instruct and supervise postgraduate residence of Saudi Board local program of King Abdul-Aziz University.

few months after being employed, I was returning back home from a vacation, at the airplane, for the very fist time in my life, there was an announcement asking for doctors to help a child who was short of breath. Not to mention the huge responsibility I felt that time, I was glad to introduce my self and help but soon after, two professors joined and took the lead.

I respect that every person is different and that what makes a team work better and stronger.

My father graduated from the same university I’ve graduated from.
He got an academic position started his scholarship of pediatric residency in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
He then continued in neonatology fellowship program in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Along his journey, I was raised seeing him very busy, if not at work, he’d be studying. So, it seemed to me as normal adult life would be like that.

I had curiosity to know why he would spend all that time reading, I sometimes enter his office and open his books, flip the papers and see pictures

As I became 8th grade, I tried to read one of his books, I didn’t understand anything and that time I felt disappointed thinking that I forgot English.

I remember thinking of changing my mind on being a doctor in the future, but every time I sit by my own and think of tommorow, I see myself as my father .. A pediatrician.

My father is my mentor. I’d like to follow his steps.

I love children, I used to help my mother taking care of my siblings, many times I offer babysitting.

I think of this speciality as a mystery, trying to understand what is going on with them and how they feel as they are still unable to express how they feel, the challenge of getting them interact and not being shy.
I think that pediatricians are smart.

Waking every morning to meet the bundles of joy, makes me feel young and fresh, looking at life as they see it bright and promising gives me a boost to give more.

Children don’t lie, they don’t act.
You know that their improving right away. As soon as they feel better, they return to their daily activity without fear.

Children’s smile is so precious, it’s so pure.

Spending at least 8 hours a day with these small creatures is medicine by its own.

My favorite subjects at school were pediatrics and OB

I didn’t like basic science that much. I like it when it’s linked to disease and not when given as a solid subject with only concepts to be known.

If you ask me to choose one, I’ll pick physiology. It’s amazing to know how the body works and how everything is connected and logic.

Why I want Canada?
The first 7 years of my life, my childhood, I spent it there. I’ll be proud to be pediatric board certified from the country I spent my childhood in.

Why I chose medicine?
I feel it’s worth spending my life knowing that I made a difference in a persons life helping her/him live a better healthy life.

I feel it’s a way to do many things in one, as to help changing a bad attitude, inspiring, educating and healing.

It’s a career where I can learn, work and pass knowledge to every person regardless of their background, age or level of education.

Why gastroenterology?
its a sub-specialty being narrow yet broad, not only dealing with the GIT but also with the pancreas, liver, gallbladder and nutrition. It also links pathophysiology with pathology and immunology. There is always something new, dealing with a range of disease, from acute, chronic to life threatening problems. Working alongside with surgeons enrich the communication skills.

Discuss about growth and nutrition is a cornerstone of childrens life, yet its under gastroenterology.

it binds knowledge with skills, breaking the routine of rounds and clinics with endoscopy and minor procedures.

I aim to further specialize in motility disorder to be the first pediatric gastroenterologists in this field in Saudi Arabia. I target to apply what I have learned in UCSD in my future research in these disorders to be one of the pioneers in motility disorders in my country and worldwide.

Im planning to take advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy to cope with the speed growth in this aspect.

I eagerly look forward to your programs acceptance to pursue my higher education and enrich my experience, which will enable me to gain the best practices in the field of gastroenterology and help me to serve my community and country and to share the knowledge and the knowhow that I would have gained with the next generation.
