Below is the direct instructions from my teacher please let me know if any more guidance is needed Thank you
Argumentation Essay Career Choice
Choose a career in which you are interested). Do
research on that career.
Locate at least three reliable sources. Sources should come from the should end in .org or .gov suffixes.
Based upon the information that you find, craft a five-paragraph
essay that argues why pursuing a career in that specific field is a good decision for todays college students.
Some reasons might include challenging and varied responsibilities, a competitive salary, personal satisfaction
from helping others, job market prospects now and in the future, and opportunities to use specific talents/skills.
Choose three major reasons why the career is a good choice. Remember that you must provide evidence from
sources (not personal beliefs or unsubstantiated claims) to support your argument. Then, use each of those
reasons as the focus of one of the body paragraphs in your essay. You may choose to use the three reasons as an
essay map at the end of your thesis statement.
Essay Length and Paragraph Requirements
600-900 words (from the beginning of the introduction to the end of the conclusion)
5 paragraphs (introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion)
5 or more sentences in each paragraph
Other Requirements
Use third person. Do not use I and/or you unless these words appear in quoted material. Avoiding
I is sometimes difficult when you are writing about a career in which you are interested. Be sure to
proofread carefully.
Avoid informal language, abbreviations, and contractions.
An outline that meets requirements set forth by the instructor is required.
Guidelines for Using Sources
Sources are required. You cannot rely on your own personal knowledge to write the essay. Specific
examples and data are required.
You must cite at least three sources correctly in your essay using properly formatted, MLA-style
parenthetical citations.
You must include an MLA-style works cited page that lists the sources that you used in preparing the
essay.
You may use more than three sources, but your essay will not earn a passing grade if you do not meet
the minimum number of sources (3).
You will also lose substantial points if you do not incorporate appropriate signal phrases leading into
your quotations.
Each body paragraph should include a minimum of one parenthetical source citation.
Citing multiple sources in each body paragraph and using appropriate proof quotations are signs of a
well-synthesized and argued paper.
Whether material is directly quoted, paraphrased, or summarized, if it is taken from a source, you must
cite the source in the appropriate manner.
A maximum of 20% of your paper may consist of direct quotations.
You must put quotation marks around directly quoted material and cite it using a parenthetical citation.
Paraphrased or summarized material requires only a parenthetical citation, so you should not use
quotation marks with this material.
You must use reputable sources, preferably those found through the Alabama Virtual Library (link
available via the Library section of the WSCC Website).
