Maria’s post: One of the major threats that are external to a nursing organization is change in government policy on Medicaid. The insurance programs provided coverage for families with low incomes in the United States. This insurance program has made it possible for children, parents and people with disabilities to access care without draining the family resources. The insurance program is however, associated to a lot of politics and each government usually comes up with new policies that may impact the ability of the nurses to offer quality care (Crawford, Omery, & Spicer, 2017). There are those governments who may seek its abolishment while other government supports it. Since its a matter of political debate, there is a high possibility that the program may not stay as it is for long. This is mainly due to the fact that it will depend on the supports it gets from the government of the day and other special interest groups.
As a nursing executive, one of my major roles is to ensure that equitable care is extended to the patient. This includes ensuring that those who come from low income familys access quality care at minimal or no cost. Trough relational connectedness, I will be able to engage in advocacy work as special interest groups to represent the interest of other nurses and the patients as well (Plough, 2020). My goal will be to ensure that the program is improved on and not abolished. I will work closely with other government officials to ensure that the program is protected and only improved on so that it can be able to cover more persons and health conditions. This will ensure that the nurses are able to serve all patients irrespective of their social or economic background. This will consequently improve the community wellbeing. Participating in advocacy work for nursing executive ensures that the issues that nursing practice are addressed through policy and health insurance for patients is one of the issues.
