PLEASE RESPONSE TO MY CLASSMATE DISCUSSION BOARD POST
There is no question that high-quality chest compression is the key element to cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is known to all healthcare workers that high-quality chest compression can be strenuous and demanding if done correctly. Over 320,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur annually in the United States and performing CPR can double, even triple the victims’ chances of survival (American Heart Association, n.d.). Based on the American Heart Association guidelines, high-quality CPR metrics include chest compression fraction greater than 80%, compression rare of 100-120 per minute, depth of at least 2 inches in adults, and minimal interruptions (AHA, n.d.). As technology has made great advancements in the healthcare industry the use of mechanical CPR devices has become more, and more common in the field. My research investigates the benefits of mechanical chest compression devices for resuscitation in cardiac arrest patients.
My number one research database is Waldens University library. The word research can be a little intimidating at times although we do it subconsciously in our everyday life. As I type in the keyword mechanical CPR device about 300 articles surface to browse. I narrowed my search by utilizing the Boolean connector to determine a final number of viable articles within the database (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). The boolean operator or connector words such as AND, OR, and NOT help the researcher narrow down the number of articles (Library of Congress, n.d.). The key to narrowing down to viable articles is the keywords used for research. The number of articles narrowed down to 27 after utilizing keywords and Boolean connector words. I was also able to exclude articles that were out of date by changing the publication date range from 2016 to the current year 2021. Finally, I limited my search to peer review only articles. Another good strategy I utilize was entering new keywords the articles provide under subject. All of these different strategies have been extremely beneficial in providing great articles for my PICO research question.
