For this paper you will be “translating” the academic jargon of a research report produced by university scientists into language the general public can understand.
For this assignment, you will write your article as a PR professional working in the university’s corporate communications office. As a PR writer sending a press release to a journalist from the university communications office, you will format your article as a press release using the format given below. The tone, word choice, and focus of your article should reflect your role as a staff writer from the university. Remember, PR writers who use overly dramatic language or incorrect grammar and style are unlikely to have their press release published as written, or published at all if many editorial changes are needed. PR writers would want to present the research and the university in positive terms and minimize references to controversy.
You must use AP in-text citation style to properly cite facts paraphrased from sources and accurately use quotation marks for the language quoted from your sources. You must not plagiarize or engage in “patch writing.”
FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
Follow standard press release format like the format provided below. The words “for immediate release” are supposed to appear on the top of your document. Use the university name, contact information, and motto appropriate for the specific article you choose to write about. Make sure your title is likely to attract readers, and write short paragraphs using Associated Press style.
