Sex Work and Capitalism (You can change the title if you want to)

Essay Prompt:

What is the debate on prostitution (sex work) in these documents? According to the documents, who is represented among prostitutes? What are some of the frameworks to understand the appearance of prostitution as a concern in these documents? Be specific about
how prostitution is understood and discussed in these documents with a sense of the layered dynamics surrounding sex work/prostitution.

*Feel free to interpret the provided prompt anyway you like. Be creative.

Task:

The midterm essay is a typed 4 (not less than 4) page essay demonstrating your understanding of the historical dynamics of race/ethnicity, class, gender identity, and sexuality in feminist
movements and organizing.

References to at least four different sources are required and the sources (which I will attach) are to include at least three course readings. The the last one may be powerpoints/class sessions, video content, or additional readings. A reference to a source should be accompanied by a quote from that source with a page number. Quotes should be full quotes and not simply three words or a phrase.

My essay will be evaluated based on the following points:

-a thesis and introductory paragraph stating your main argument.

-paragraphs making a key point for your argument. It is important to go beyond writing one paragraph per group, structuring your paper around one document per paragraph, or organizing
the paragraphs to present one paragraph on race, one on class, and one on another topic. Intersectionality in reality would discuss all three in the same space. So consider structuring
your paragraphs around themes that include more than one group or issues affecting more than one group (women, trans sexuals, people of color, and people of different classes).

-a clear organization of your ideas with examples that respond to your thesis statement and focus of the paper such as quotes from the readings.

–specific information in your discussion rather than broad, general statements. By specific I mean rooted in class lectures, discussions, and readings, which you can refer to with quotes as
relevant to your argument.

-incorporation of three different readings (focus on original documents) plus one additional
reading, powerpoint/class discussion, or video or blog content.

-response to the prompt that is thorough, nuanced, and demonstrates a facility with putting these
documents into a narrative or conversation about the topic.

*I know this is a big task, so if you can give me the paper at the latest by Thursday night @ 7 pm that would be great!
————————————————————————————————————————————-
I provided 10 sources, but I would like if you could at least include these 7 sources:

-An Interview with Marcia P. Johnson (trans sex workers)
-Double Jeopardy by Francis Beal (talks about legalized prostitution and colored women)
-WGSS Early Trans-feminism powerpoint
-Young Lords Feminist manifestos (Street prostitution among poor, colored women)
-Wages against Housework by Silvia Federici (Prostitution within the Household)
-Women at Work by Hooks
-Controversy over Sex Worker Solidarity (https://www.rollcall.com/2017/01/18/sex-worker-solidarity-sparks-more-controversy-for-womens-march/)

Everything else may give more context on feminist intersectionality, and the capitalist and patriarchy issues facing marginalized poor, trans, and colored women.

I also provided a screenshot of the essay rubric and the original document containing the instructions for the paper in the attached files.
