ADHD, behavior disorders, and anxiety disorders

read in your textbook about ADHD, behavior disorders, and anxiety disorders by Richard Milich and Walter Roberts
University of Kentucky. These three disorders collectively affect millions of children and no doubt affect some of you. Anxiety is a common experience among college students but that does not mean they have a mental disorder. There is a difference between having some anxiety and having an anxiety disorder.

In this assignment, and in your own 500 words or more, I want you to:

1)begin with a brief discussion of the major difference between a “syndrome” and a “mental illness”.

2)Then, consider what you think the definition of “mental illness” is, in your own words.

3) Consider and discuss whether there is there any “real” way of measuring and defining what “normal” is in a culture or society? Yes, No, Sort of?…Explain your answer.

4) Are disorders behaviors and mental illness really only behaviors that are not normal in a given society? Why not? Does this have an implication for a notion of a “normal” human? Consider the stories from the video by Oliver Sacks and discuss the connection between the physical brain and the mind.

5) For full credit on this assignment, tell me what Charles Bonnet said 250 years ago about the causes of mental hallucinations. You’ll find the answer in this video of Oliver Sacks.
