You will research the issue (completing a thorough literature search and review) and write an 810 page (approx 2500 words) academic paper that that not only explains the case but also offers an analysis of the ethical considerations and a policy response.
Specifically, you will address:
What happened
What went wrong
Why it went wrong (e.g. what ethical principles were violated)
What, if anything, was done about it
Why that did or didnt work
What could be done to prevent such situations from happening in the future.
Please be sure to choose a topic focused on global (i.e., not U.S.) bioethics.
In this assignment, you will be evaluated on your ability to
identify a compelling case (with a complex and interesting topic),
conduct a thorough review of the literature (sourced from multiple perspectives),
synthesize the existing literature (evidenced by citations and narration),
come up with an insightful analysis that demonstrates creative/innovative thinking (e.g. an agenda for future research in the areas, questions that have not been answered, policy recommendations, targeted interventions related to education, etc.).

For my final paper, I am planning on examining the child soldier humanitarian crisis. While movies like Beasts of No Nation do well to portray the experience as a child soldier, very little is publicized about life after war for these children. Some studies have reported that between 93-97% of these children experience mild to severe PTSD after leaving or escaping their armies (Vindevogel 2013). There are currently an estimated 250,000 child soldiers around the world, with about 40% of this population estimated to be female (Theirworld.org). These children are primarily conscripted by non-state actors. This goes against the stereotype that all child soldiers are just little boys holding guns, but also child-brides. While these children are at significant risk of psychological problems, research into rehabilitation has shown that reintegration is possible with the right program. I believe that this is a crisis that deserves more funding and attention as it directly impacts children across the globe and has a viable treatment plan available.
Please look at the cases of Nepalese Child soldiers as there are good longitudinal studies that can provide good evidence for treatment of PTSD in former child soldiers.
