Take a look at the Virtual Lecture, “Music and Globalization” and consider the case of the steel guitar. Is the steel guitar in today’s music the result of Assimilation, Acculturation, Syncretism, or Diffusion (you may want to look these up in your book for further explanation)? Be sure to defend your answer in a sentence or two. Next, search the web and post a link to a video or audio file that represents a musical custom from another part of the world. Pay close attention to the types of instruments that are being played. Are these native instruments, or have the entered this custom through globalization and diffusion? Do little background research about the music. Where and how did the music originate? Is the the product of one of the above mentioned processes of culture change?
