Instructions for your formal lab report. The report should be a write up of the Refraction lab you turned in. (I will upload this for you) (I am not sure if the paper will be seven pages as I am ordering, but I am ordering extra pages to pay for diagrams and screenshots and charts you may make or use) THANKS SO MUCH
You do not redo or create a new lab for this report. The purpose of the formal report is to create a cohesive write-up of the lab’s purpose you completed, what you did for the lab, how you did the lab, what your results were, and what your results mean. Your report should include all portions of the lab worksheet submitted.
Because your worksheet is rather detailed, and has you write out many answers in sentences, it should be rather easy to transfer your work from the worksheet into a write up paper.
Your report should be typed, neat, and readable with complete and cohesive sentences. Any diagrams of the lab that you include may be screenshots. It is recommended you include atleast one screenshot/diagram of the setup. There should be a title at the top of your report, and clearly labeled sections. You must include the following sections in your report:
-Purpose – on the purpose of the lab – physics outcomes you should understand from it.
-Introduction (or Background) – background information on the physics involved – concepts and equations. This should be very specific and detailed. Explain any information needed to complete the lab (ex: Snell’s law ) and explain equations involved.
-Materials – what materials did you use in the lab (ex: computer, explore learning simulation, and any materials the simulations used such as a light source, protractor, etc)
-Lab Set up – This should include screenshots or diagrams of how the lab was set up for different parts
-Data/Results- any data tables should be included here, with short explanations on what was done for each table. What your results of the lab parts were. These should be the sections you completed such as “experiment”, “calculations” ,”data”, “solve”, “analysis”, etc. Explain your results.
-Analysis/Conclusion: Analyze and comment on your results – this should include sections you completed in the lab such as “analyze”, “draw conclusions”, “interpret”, etc. Include why your setups worked, whether the results made sense and why, etc. This will also be the place in which if you did something incorrect in the lab, you will comment on how it was incorrect, why it was incorrect, and how you would do it differently next time. You will also quickly summarize you did in the lab, and what you found.
-References – Here you will put any references for outside sources you used for the background information. If you’re using web sources, please state the Name of the page/article/textbook and the website underneath the name.
Sections should be clearly visible (It should not look like an English paper) and text should be 11-12 point font.
