Psyc 204 – Social psychology
It is the scientific study of how humans think, behave and feel in their social environments. This class is designed to present a general overview of the exciting and rich field of social psychology and its subfields. We will cover major topics such as social cognition, social self, social influence and conformity, as well as their application in various fields. We will also pay particular attention to how research is conducted in social psychology to address specific empirical questions.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course students will:
Have gained a basic understanding of social psychological concepts and principles as a subfield of psychology;
Have acquired the knowledge and understanding that social psychology is an empirical science and should be appreciated with all its complexity and interdisciplinary nature;
Become familiar with the founders of social psychology and its major theoretical frameworks which gave shape to contemporary social psychology;
Be able to understand the role of social psychology in everyday life and its practical applications in personal and professional domains.
The instructions: The midterm will consist of approximately 50 multiple-choice and 4 short-essay questions.
You are responsible for the topics that we have covered up to the end of today’s class (from Chapter 1 to Chapter 5 – The Self Part 3).
There will be 5 chapters included on the exam.
The exam on the 30th of April 5.30-7.00 PM in Turkey time.
