How has the cultural practice of astrology changed as it moves from old media to a new generation of apps?

Write a research essay (3000 words +/-10%) on an object of your own choice, structured around a main argument or idea. The essay should introduce your research object and research aim, engage with a theoretical framework, indicate your methodology (implicitly or explicitly), analyze your object(s), and conclude in a way that reflects on your interpretation/findings.

Formal requirements:

essay title, name, student number, seminar title, teacher name
consistent formatting
referencing and bibliography according to Chicago manual of style (author-date)
bibliography must contain at least 10 references (of which at least 6 are academic sources)
Your final paper will be assessed on the following criteria:

clarity of the research purpose (focused research object and relevant research justification)
strength of the main argument (research question, thesis statement or both)
ability to identify relevant concepts in existing research and relate these to your object of study
ability to indicate and justify decisions made about method
evidence-based analysis that draws on the theoretical framework and implements the chosen method
conclusion that reflects on the main argument

I already have:
Hypothesis: With the development of technological progress and the improvement of the data security of users of the global network, the horoscopes, products and services provided by the application are personalized. (Could be changed)

Theoretical framework: digitalisation, platformization, appofication
Concepts: privacy and personalisation
Methodology and objects: apps Co-star and Nebula and articles: How to Do Mobile App Personalization That Drives Engagement and Retains Users
Personalization versus Customization: The Importance of Agency, Privacy, and Power Usage
Co-star: Personalized astrology as a form of communication (writer can add more but it should be academic, not about sociology! this fact is so important)
Also: I have main argument Technological progress has contributed to the development of data personalization in Horoscope mobile applications, thereby increasing the requirements of the privacy policy, which are subject to the laws of the manufacturer’s country on the non-proliferation of personal information.

The last thing my explanation about concepts and others things:
To collect the empirical data I will address three mobile apps which provide their users with the personalised predictions and advices: Co-Star, Nebula and Hint: Horoscope & Astrology. Moreover, the literature review will be based on the several scientific resources which are mentioned on the slide.

The two main inter-connected concepts which will be presented in my research paper are privacy and personalization. Privacy in the terms of constitutional law means the freedom to decide about intensely personal matters without government pressure, or control and // in the following case, without the distribution of the personal data to the third parties. The personalisation can be considered the act of creating something to meet a specific person’s needs. Overall, the development of personalisation requires more attention to the private policy. The concept of digitalization is revealed in our work from the distribution of horoscopes through the printed edition of newspapers to narrowly focused mobile applications and specialized sites. Thus, horoscopes have found platforms for creating and distri buting personalized information among astrology fans.
The initial public of horoscopes was in newspaper columns but this type of production and distribution of information products did not imply a personalized approach to the requests and needs of users of these services, also it did not guarantee the anonymity of users and the security of their personal data. With the development of information technology, horoscopes have moved from the pages of newspapers to the information space, and technological progress has allowed astrologers to make more accurate calculations in the field of the influence of astronomical bodies on our daily life. Therefore, horoscopes entered a new stage in the development of the industry – personalization,
which not only significantly increased the flow of users, but also accordingly increased the profit from forecasts and predictions.
Despite the many benefits of a personalized approach, this required more serious privacy decisions that were required to generate more accurate horoscopes. Increasing the level of security of user data has also become possible thanks to the development of technologies that ensured protection of servers of astrological applications from possible hacking of personal data by third parties, including marketing and analytical companies.
