Background and Dimensions of Islam
First, briefly summarize the historical, geographical, cultural, and philosophical foundations of Islam.
Second, identify an important religious doctrine, or mythology, or ritual, or symbol and then explain how it fits into this religion.
Third, speculate about how your choice expresses the uniqueness of this religion.
Understanding Beliefs Not Our Own
The purpose of this discussion is for you to develop an appreciation and understanding the diversity of religious traditions by practicing effective communication skills in a cooperative and collaborative way with people who have different religious beliefs than our own. To do this, you will imagine, through role playing, that you have beliefs that are not our own.
First, imagine that you are in a conversation with a practitioner of Islam and ask that person a question about his or her religious beliefs.
Second, answer the question you posed as you would imagine a practitioner of this religion would answer the question.
Third, collaborate with your classmates to understand the perspective of the person who is answering the question by providing supplemental responses to the answers provided.
Remember, your goal is to facilitate effective communication between people with different beliefs and so you are engaging in role playing. Any ideas that you get from your reading of the textbook should be referenced with a page number.
Examining Islamic Sacred Texts
The uncited revelations of the Hadith are viewed differently by different religions. Compare and contrast some of the discussions in the Hadith to similar topics in the Quran. Are there significant differences? Can they be reconciled?
The book below is where you can get the information needed. And it does not need an abstract page.
