What factor best explains American nativism: religious differences, economic concerns, political ideology, or ethnicity/race?

Throughout our class, we have looked at several forms of nativism–the recurring belief that American-born individuals should be protected from and prioritized above the interests of immigrants.

What factor best explains American nativism: religious differences, economic concerns, political ideology, or ethnicity/race? Pick the factor you think has been most important in driving nativism. Your answer should briefly explain the role of all four factors in contributing to nativism, then make your case for why the factor you’ve chosen is the most influential. Be sure to explain where this attitude comes from, how it has influenced immigration and naturalization in the United States, and what legacy it has left on the history of our country.

Be sure to (1) answer the question with a clear and persuasive thesis, (2) argue your thesis in a logical organization, and (3) defend your argument with evidence.

Each paragraph should include and cite evidence drawn from a primary source. Altogether you should use a minimum of three primary sources. These should mostly come from class materials–the primary sources on canvas, primary sources quoted or cited in a lecture or primary sources from the USGP textbook. You have to meet the requirement above then you can bring in an outside source you liked. I will send you all primary sources, and USGP(The United States in Global perspective) textbook PDF.
