Procedure

After reading the Chapter 16, you will need to do the following:
For Week 5:
Select a topic (See Chapter 11).

Analyze/Survey your audience (See pp. 218-1a). Assume the class is your audience. Use the Discussion Boards Informative Audience Analysis Forum to post questions by Tuesday. Respond to the questions from your classmates on or before Thursday pm. [Write out analysis.]

Write a specific goal statement: (Having heard my speech, I want the audience to –do what?) (See pp. 225).

Write a thesis statement. The thesis is a one or two sentence summary of your speech which incorporates your general and specific goals and previews the main points. Refer back to chapter 12, pp 250+. [Write out the thesis in Part I].

Gather your information. Research, using one or more sources, is required. Include a bibliography of the source(s) used. Refer to chapter 11 or MLA OWL citation for help in writing the bibliography. [Write out the bibliography. Add the audience analysis, goal, and thesis. Upload to Submit Assignments].

Organize your information and prepare a key-phrase outline (using an appropriate organizational pattern. Include oral footnotes (also known as Verbal Citations) of sources directly in the outline for research that is used. Review the Verbal Citations video, found in Course Materials.

Upload the Informative Outline and Oral Footnotes to Submit Assignments in Week 5, the week before presenting the speech.

After considering the OPTIONS FOR PRESENTING THE SPEECH (in COURSE CONTENT), email your instructor to finalize a day and time to present the speech live over the computer OR inform that you will record your speech in front of a live audience and upload the unedited file to YouTube (See Course Materials menu option.)

For Week 6:
Practice the speech, using extemporaneous delivery and the key word outline. Upload the grading rubric in Submit Assignments in Week 6 prior to presenting the speech.

After presenting the speech, complete the Self-Analysis Plan. Upload your completed Self-analysis in week 6 in Submit Assignments.
