Question: If you were in the process of developing a plan for an internal HR audit, what materials, articles, books, and resources would you include in your plan, and why?

Answer: One of the first resources that I would include in my plan would be the employee handbook and up-to-date policies. If there was a need to look into employee files and records, permission needs to be granted. Security is a top priority and needs to be taken seriously. Focusing on employees mood and emotional well-being is relevant to ethics (Mitchell et al, 2010). If an employee is extremely upset about something, they may be more likely to act unethically or break a rule. I would make sure to include resources that address mental health and promote a positive work environment. As Dr. Russo (personal communication, April 11, 2021) mentioned in our live chat this month, a hostile work environment is something that should never happen in an organization. The state and federal laws regarding compliance would be another document I would include in the plan because we want to ensure that the audit is being done fairly and justly.

Question: What is the relationship between such audits and the academic or training operations of a school or business?

Answer: According to Christopher (2012) internal audits can give assurance to members within a company about policies and risk management. One of the goals is to ensure that rules are being followed and the company is complying with policies and laws. After an audit has been conducted, some large changes need to occur within the company. The training staff should be up to date regarding all the new changes that will be implemented. The training staff should be in constant communication with human resources to ensure that the training staff is giving all employees accurate information and training.
