For your final exam essay, you will write a brief essay in which you will argue the ways in which YOU ARE and / or
ARE NOT representative of your generation. You may choose to argue that you represent your generation well, you are
nothing like profiles of your generation, or that you are a bit of both. You should set up the discussion of your particular
generation in the introduction, and the direction of your argument must be clearly established in the thesis at the end of
your introduction.
Since this essay will be about you and your generation, you should use first-person pronouns, like I.
Carefully organize your topic sentences and body paragraphs around the points you establish within your thesis.
Now, for the complication: you must use (and document) at least one source, but you must restrict yourself to the articles
(this includes the Kasasa website) that we read this semester. You may NOT use any outside sources beyond the articles
we read during the semester. The article or articles you use do not necessarily have to be explicitly about your generation.
Many of the articles we read this semester referred to other generations, even if they were primarily about one generation.
Please document the article or articles you use with in-text citations and a works cited page. Do not include any generation
characteristics for which you do not have source information to document. All information you present as fact must be
documented from an article which we read this semester.
Your final exam essay must be between 500 and 1000 words long.
All essays in my class fall within the 10% rule. Under this rule, you may go 10% under or over the required word count,
but if your essay falls outside of those boundaries, you will automatically lose 10% of your grade as a penalty. The
acceptable word count range for this essay is 450 to 1100 words. The works cited page will not be included in the word
count for this essay.
