define portion size in your own words. Next, using your food log from Week 4, address portion size in your diet. Do you think you are consuming foods in the correct portion sizes? What changes, if any, would you make to improve portion sizes for yourself at each meal?

This week you address 3 of the six components of healthy meal planning, discussed in this week’s video lecture and found in the outlines.

1. Portion Size

First, define portion size in your own words.
Next, using your food log from Week 4, address portion size in your diet. Do you think you are consuming foods in the correct portion sizes? What changes, if any, would you make to improve portion sizes for yourself at each meal?

2. Variety

First, define variety in your own words.
Next, using your assignment from week 4, pick 2 vitamins and 2 minerals you were deficient (low) in. If you were not low in any vitamins and minerals, you could pick any 4 vitamins or minerals. Discuss strategies for increasing foods to provide more of these nutrients in your diet. Be sure to include specific food examples for each of the 4 nutrients.

3. Balance

First, define balance in your own words. Include the recommended ranges for each of the AMDR’s.
Next, using your food log from Week 4, re-calculate your AMDR’s found at the bottom of your log. Show your work/calculations. Then address whether you were within the recommended ranges for each of the macronutrients. Would you make any changes to the percentages for yourself?
